All children deserve access to quality education, no matter where they were born

We bring refurbished technology, curated learning content and teacher training to Guatemala's public schools.

Our Mission

To accelerate Guatemala's development by improving the quality of education and creating opportunities that transform lives, through the use of technology. Funsepa US is the United States arm of that work, channelling equipment, funding and partnerships to Guatemalan public schools.

Programs

Our main programme, Technology to Educate, puts working computers into public schools at no cost to them. We accept donated equipment from companies, government bodies, foundations and international partners, then classify, repair and rebuild it into good-as-new machines at our centre in Mixco, Guatemala. Education specialists pre-load each computer with material chosen by subject and grade level and aligned to Guatemala's National Base Curriculum, so a teacher can use it from the first day. Our team delivers and installs the equipment on site and stays available for technical support afterwards, with young people from the same communities trained and employed as technicians. Alongside it we run a Teacher Training programme, and the NA'AT, SOS Docente, Empla-T and Municipios Digitales initiatives.

Our Impact

Guatemala has more than 35,000 public primary schools, and roughly 90% of them have no access to technology. Nationally, 35% of students reach satisfactory results in reading assessments and 11% in mathematics; among applicants for primary teaching posts, 51% pass the reading assessment and 37% the mathematics one. That is the gap our work addresses: equipping classrooms that would otherwise have no computers, putting curriculum-aligned material in front of students and teachers who have never had it, and creating technical jobs for young people in the communities we serve.

Who We Help

Children studying in Guatemala's public primary schools, with a focus on rural and underserved regions such as Quiché, together with the teachers who work in those classrooms. Young people from the same communities also benefit directly, trained and employed as the technicians who install and maintain the equipment.
