Earthquake in Colombia. Care is needed now.
Join our earthquake response. Your donation helps provide family-based shelter and psychosocial support to affected children and families, protecting their bonds. Relief is temporary. Care lasts
SOS Children’s Villages Colombia works to ensure that every child and young person grows up with the care, protection and bonds they need to feel safe, loved and able to thrive. We strengthen families to prevent unnecessary separation, provide family-based care when parental care is lost, respond to humanitarian emergencies, and advocate for children’s rights

In response to the earthquake affecting Chocó, Valle del Cauca and other regions of Colombia, SOS Children’s Villages Colombia is mobilizing its humanitarian expertise to protect children and families. Emergencies can disrupt care, weaken family networks, and increase the risk of child-family separation. Our response prioritizes keeping families together and restoring safe, protective environments through temporary family shelter, psychosocial support, protective spaces for children, essential relief assistance, and case management when protection needs arise. We work with families and communities to provide immediate, dignified, and sustained support that strengthens caregiving capacity and helps children regain safety, stability, and emotional well-being. Your support helps us reach affected communities with care that goes beyond immediate relief—protecting the relationships children need to recover and thrive. Donate today and help children stay safe, supported and connected to their families.

SOS Children’s Villages Colombia will support 3,000 children and adolescents and 1,500 caregivers affected by the earthquake in prioritized communities of Chocó and Valle del Cauca. Many families have lost or can no longer safely remain in their homes, while others have experienced displacement, loss of loved ones, family separation, emotional distress, disruption of education and limited access to essential services. Many of the affected communities, particularly in Chocó and parts of Valle del Cauca, include Afro-Colombian families who already face socioeconomic inequalities and barriers to accessing services. The earthquake has further increased their protection and recovery needs. The response will support families during the early recovery and stabilization phase, helping them restore safety, care and daily routines. Children will access protective spaces and psychosocial and educational support, while caregivers will receive assistance to strengthen their well-being and caregiving capacities. Within the response, 60 people per month will access temporary family shelter, and 360 cases will receive individualized case management and referrals. Special attention will be given to children at risk of or affected by family separation, ensuring that recovery also protects the family bonds that are essential to their safety and well-being.
